As promised Andy Fulton managed to get the Melbourne Vets a game this year against Burton RFC.  A great day out for Melbourne bringing together players from past and present with the added bonus of wearing the new kit.

The temperature was far to hot to watch rugby never mind play and the early signs didn't look good when Burton turned the vets over on three occasions, passed the ball through about every player and scored under the posts.

Melbourne did hit back quickly and scored a few tries themselves in the first half through Andy Fulton x 2, Pete Ilott, Ian Lucas, Ian Watts with Kev Brown knocking a few conversions over.

Burton scored another Barbarians try in the first half with the ball being past between all their players before being touched down under the posts.

Melbourne started the second half with the fresh legs of Phil Johnson and Steve Fletcher taking the field and started brightly with Nick Parkinson scampering over for the first of his two second half tries (oh to be 35 again!!).

Andy Fulton ambled home for his 3rd try of the afternoon and Pete Ilott made it a brace for himself, Burton scored a couple of tries in the second half t,themselves to keep Melbourne looking over their shoulders but finally the referee blew his whistle and Melbourne had won 66 : 26.

Thanks for Dave Birchall in sorting out the fixture, well done to Andy Fulton in pulling together a side this late on in the season. Can we please have the next one in December when its raining and cold???
