Melbourne turned up to play Boots Athletic after an impressive game last week against West Bridgford 1st will half the team missing.
For this game Melbourne had a nearly full strength team, to find out Nathan had organised the game against Nottingham Academy who were all young lads.Both teams started the game well at a fast pace with Melbourne keeping it tight in the forwards and Nottingham passing the ball around well with some good off loading in the tackle. After a tight 15 minutes Melbourne missed a few tackles and notts off loaded well to get the first score under the posts and converted.This sprung Melbourne into life and Melbourne kept hold of the ball really well using the forwards and the backs, with 10 minutes left in the half Melbourne got the ball down the back line and Ashley stringer danced around 5 players to score a fantastic try under the posts which was converted.Half Time 7 – 7Melbourne started the second half really well with the forwards having plenty of ball and picking up well at the back of the rucks. Melbourne camped in the notts half and every time we got anywhere near the line we gave away a silly penalty and notts relieved there pressure with a big clearing kick.This seemed to be the same form for the rest of the half Melbourne nearly getting there and giving away a penalty, some of the penalty decisions were strange from a less than fair referee, but u can only play with what you have in front of you.Half way through the second half notts got into the Melbourne 22 and somehow spun the ball down the back line and scored in the corner and converted.With 10 minutes to go a notts player went down with a neck injury and couldn’t be moved so both teams called it a day.All in all a very good performance against a strong team, but if we are to progress this year and push for promotion we have got to have better discipline.Next week first league game V’s Nottinghamians.
