Despite the difference in numbers Melbourne competed well and went 3 - 0 up.

As the game went on Melbourne suffered more losses to injury and played with only 10 players until the Ashby captain balanced up the numbers giving Melbourne two players and playing 13 V 12.

Despite this situation the Melbourne lads competed throughout and never let their heads go down.
