Melbourne fielded a strong 3rd team against an unknown Mosbourgh veteran’s side, managing to get 18 players to the game.

Match Report

It was, as the saying goes, a game of two halves. Melbourne started the stronger, playing downhill, pinning the veterans into their own 22. Strong forward possession and plenty of good clean ball to the backs went unrewarded as Mosbourgh stoutly defended their lines.

This continued until late in the first half when a loose ball was hacked forward, and Mosbourgh, following a passage of excellent interplay, scored. This buoyed the veterans and they never looked back.

Although Melbourne had a strong 20 minutes in the middle of the second half they never looked like scoring and conceded another 5 tries.

Man of the match, Roger Lucas stated, “we were out muscled by a very well organised team”.

This was the first meeting between Melbourne and Mosbourgh and hopefully won’t be the last, Mosbourgh played hard but fair making the game an enjoyable experience.

Finally thanks must be given to Pete Tunnicliffe for stepping in at the lat moment to referee the fixture.
