RFU rules state that Girls over the age of 12 may not play contact rugby with boys. (This saves the boys the embarrassment of being beaten by girlies!)

Melbourne Rugby Club established a full girls squad in 2004 and now has approaching 30 members divided between the two playing age groups - U15s and U18s.

For the U18 ladies, this means 15 a side full contact, contested scrums and line-outs.

The U15s play as a team of twelve, with 5 forwards making up the scrum in the thick of the action and 7 backs running fast to stay out of trouble. They also enjoy full contact tackling, but for safety and development reasons have uncontested scrums and line-outs.

Coaches are qualified and CRB checked and when needed, we draw on other coaching strengths from our junior and senior squads to teach specific drills.

We have a full fixture list with home and away games, interspersed with training at Chellaston.

Each year we arrange a weekend tour, mixing two competitive matches with fun and games and an overnight stay.

If you have played before or just want to give it a go, come and enjoy good rugby, friendship and a happy social environment at our Chellaston club house.
