Minxes roar on to their third straight victory and after an incident during the match, we are pleased to say Jo Royston Webb, our hooker, was released from hospital with bruising to her neck but no serious damage. Tim Boyse reports....
With many of the Minxes turning up late after partying at an 18th birthday the night before
,expectations of a sparkling performance were low.
Buxton bringing a large squad
of 16 players ,some travelling as far north as Macclesfield, looked a little
intimidated by our girls in their slimfit Melbourne kit and professional warm up .
Fortunately any hint of a hangover was soon blown away as Melbourne started the game
in a confident mood . Moving the ball with a series of rucks using runners from
the back of the ruck and centres from the midfield . Buxton tackled confidently
but Melbourne
have perfected the ability to protect the ball and maintain possession
especially around the breakdown .
Soon Buxton ran out of tacklers and the Taz
Marsh burst over for the first try . The pattern of the games was then set with
some straight running from Elodie, Maisie Bethan and Katherine . As a result our
new centre partnership had some fast ball and subsequently Taz and Claudia went
over for two excellent tries. Although not an easy game, the Minxes grew in
confidence and soon moved the ball confidently - keeping possession by clever
off loads in the tackle .As a result Claudia popped up again on Taz's shoulder
to run in an easy try from 5 meters .At this point the Minxes 22 points ahead, the Buxton girls fought back getting
into the Minxes 22 only to be turned over by some excellent tackling . There
were occasions however when the red mist came down and everyone thought they
could score by running route one .The
team need to develop the ability to switch to a wider game and know when to pass
before the tackle if they have support .
The forwards continued to dominate the
line outs with some good jumping from Bethan and Maisie. The new front row
showed their mettle too, pushing Buxton
back the regulation 5 meters. Emma Fox popped up in the second half to grab and
opportunist try with her quick thinking diving over the line after winning a
scrum 5 meters out . Then it was the turn of the backs where Charlotte looped
round brilliantly on Ashleigh resulting in a 60 meter dash for the line pulling
away to score a great try , then Laura, on the wing ,connected with the backs to
pick up a hard earned score after failing to ground the ball in a previous
attempt .Taz Marsh then scored two more tries supported by one from her sister
Elodie .
Unfortunately the game had to be abandoned half way through the second
half after a collapsed scrum and neck injury to Jo Royston Webb .Thankfully
after paramedics had taken her off on a stretcher to causality we later found
out she survived a nasty incident with severe bruising of her neck .Best wishes
to Jo to recover soon .Finally Taz Marsh was awarded player of the match and
subsequently won the boat race too with her sister Elodie .
Another great win
putting our season at played 4 won 3 lost 136 points for 36 against - Well Done
- you Mighty Minxes
