From 28th Oct 2007: Having travelled the length of Derbyshire and arrived in what felt like a tropical rainstorm - we were met by  not one, but two  teams who wanted to play the mighty Melbourne Minxes -Buxton RFC and Waterloo RFC  , who had travelled all the way from Merseyside .So we agreed to play 2x 30minites games,  our first vs. a strong Buxton side .The learning focus in this game was to concentrate on getting the attacker going backwards in the tackle and getting them to the floor plus wherever possible play a  "ruck ball is fast ball" game .Choosing to ignore this   advice - from the kick off the girls ran a driving maul 65m down the pitch for Anna McDonald  to score the first try of the game - oh well so what do I know ! Charlotte  Crompton - our new kicker playing her first game for Melbourne ,just missed the conversion . The game then continued in Melbourne's favour with some delightful lineout catches from Bethan Boyse , penalty moves, ruck ball of 2 or 3 phases all gaining ground for Melbourne. The Minxes  then went 10 points up when Hooker ,  Katherine Ford scored her first try for the club. In the second half Buxton came back hard and we had to defend our line for a long period of the game and when we failed to clear a kick to touch Buxton scored . The Minxes immediately came back with another try , this time from a fantastic move, winning the line out , passing down the backs for centre  Amy Sheldrake to cut inside and beat  3 defenders with her angle of running - 15- 5.Buxton then scored again following  another Melbourne mistake but the Minxes always looked the stronger team when ,Elodie Marsh ,the player of the match scored Melbourne's last try after some tremendous rucking and mauling from the forwards. Final Score 20:10 to Melbourne.
