Also from 28th Oct 2007: The next game
was a much tougher encounter vs Waterloo, a Liverpool side that were much older and came with a
reputation of having all of the Merseyside county players in their side. We
started off giving them too much respect and they took a 12 point lead almost
immediately .However at the end of the first half we were camped on their line
and must have run 5 or six phases of ruck ball using our strong forwards to
attack their line but failed to score. The second half we continued the
pressure as Waterloo
began to tire .Bethan get some space from a number 8 pick
move and we worked the ball down the field .Eventually the ball was
passed to Amy who ran in a carbon copy of her first try . This was
converted leaving the score 12:7 to Waterloo.
Despite some great kicking to the corners we couldn't get over their line and
at the death Waterloo scored a break away try from their powerful number 10
which they failed to convert - final score 17:7 .A very respectable performance
in both games and demonstrated the potential this set of girls has. As they
continue to attend county training sessions and play more and more games their
confidence and knowledge of the game will build. Highlights of the game for me
was the bravery of Claudia Shillabeer dropping on the floor to win the lose
ball, Ashlieigh Creswell and Elodie running straight off the penalty moves. A
fantastic and fearless performance which gives the whole team confidence for
our next encounter verses Jimmies Angels at Home Sunday 11th
