Seniors' Results

11 men turn up to play Uttoxeter at home so we had to get two players from them to make up a 13 v 14 a-side game. 

Melbourne were on the back foot for most of the first half. Long Eaton’s pack dominated possession and set pieces. Committed defense and clever kicking by Kev Brown, playing Flyhalf, kept Melbourne in the game. 

Competitive match played in good spirit Melbourne cruising until conceding late first half try. Put on back foot early in second half but hung on for the win. 

Melbourne arrived 2 players down with no front row. Captained by James Perry, with uncontested scrums, Melbourne played with 13 players against 15 of Ashby. 

Melbourne fielded a strong 3rd team against an unknown Mosbourgh veteran’s side, managing to get 18 players to the game. 

Notts. Casuals arrived with a young colts side made up mainly of backs. Melbourne had to loan two forward players to allow the game to be played as contested scrums. 

The third team welcomed the return of Roger Lucas and John Sibley with Ray Sparkes and Tim Young starting their first games of the new season. James Ayre, son of Mini and junior stalwart Trevor, made his senior debut. 

The game was played with a strong wind assisting the team attacking the changing rooms. Melbourne won the toss and started with wind assistance.
