MELBOURNE U-13’S

MATCH REPORT

Melbourne v Burton on 02.03.2008

Match Score 24 - 7

This match was played over two halves of 25 minutes, in very windy but dry conditions.

The first half saw most of the play confined to 10 metres either side of the halfway line, both sides tackling well. Despite some excellent drives by our pack and certain individuals we were unable to break through. Burton managed two runs to our line, one resulting in a converted try, the only score of the half.

The second half saw us put Burton under more pressure with Sam Rooth leading the way with some good drives, before Joe Stewart scored our opening try, Jack Pearce narrowly missing the conversion. We applied further pressure before Burton broke away and crossed our line, unfortunately putting the ball down over the dead ball line, their player not realising how tight our in goal area was, very unlucky. From then on we took control of the match , running in three more tries, one for Sam Rooth and two more for debut boy Joe Stewart, Jack Pearce converting two of them.

This was another excellent display boys,  particularly by our pack, a real force to be reckoned with!!!!!

Moment of the match, Joe Stewart’s run thro’ for his second and our third try!!!!

Well done to Joe for his hat-trick on debut!!!!!!!!!

Finally may I myself and on behalf of the team wish James North a speedy recovery from his nasty knee injury, good luck Northy get yourself fit for cricket and we’ll see you next season!!!!!!
