MATCH REPORT
Melbourne v Derby B on 27.01.2008
Match Score 7 - 0
This match was played over two halves of 20 minutes, in very windy conditions. Both teams were happy to be playing again after the enforced layoff.
The first half was a very even affair with neither side managing to breach good defences, despite coming close a couple of times. There were a lot of excellent tackling, in particular Joe Thompson with three, and several good drives.
The second half saw us start well with several drives before Sam Rooth broke away to run in for the only try of the match, converted by Jack Pearce. This put us in control with Jack Pearce testing the Derby defence with a couple of kicks, one almost leading to a try.
This was another excellent result against very good opposition. Well done boys, a great start to 2008, keep it going!!!!!!!!
A further 20 minute match was then played to give other squad players a game and we won 10-0 with tries from Sam Rooth and Finlay Lowson, his first for Melbourne.
Henry Stoll provided the comical moment of the day when he tried to convert Finlay's try with a drop kick that failed to get off the ground!!!!!!!!!
Finally well done to Josh Doyle for a good solid debut!
