Pitmen Well and Truly Buried on Their Own Coal Face

Readers are tasked with picking out as many of the coal industry related puns as possible. Should not be too hard as Crawford Fisher is meant to be able to do it as well.

The opposition could have been forgiven for thinking that they were in for an easy shift as they went one try up very early doors. It was at that point however that our boys turned up the heat on their Davey Lamps and hit a very rich seam of form that that left the Leicestershire boys not knowing where their next strike was coming from.

Quicker than you could say “Flying Picket” and fuelled by their annoyance at being caught with their pants down on the early shift, the boys ran in a bucket load of tries. Watty got three, Skye, Pagey, Will Stoll all one each and Marcus a double. A special mention goes to Aaron Topley who ran in a good try which topped off a fine performance from our Backline Foreman. Jack kicked very well to bag five conversions bearing in mind the wind which was strong enough to have you watching for the odd stray sack of coal winging its way somewhere around one’s ears.

The final scoreline of 50-5 conveys the fact that we gave them a bit of a belting – get it??- in pure rugby terms of course. They were a good side who to their great credit never gave up the struggle. A good day at the colliery with a shower thrown in for our own Little Victorious Miners.
